Program Assistant

Description of the Position:

The Department of Community Engagement offers educational and professional development programming to the broader public beyond the community of matriculated JTS students, enabling JTS to serve as a leading educational voice and resource for the Conservative movement and the vital religious center of North American Jewry.  The Department has plans for significant growth in its activities including a new focus on outreach to Jewish millennials.  

The Program Assistant will be working with Community Engagement staff on a range of programs including online learning platforms, JTS’s educational programming both inside and outside of 3080 Broadway, and the research, development and implementation of new initiatives to bring Jewish learning to the millennial generation.  The Program Assistant will help to execute and continually improve compelling and substantive programs that bring JTS’s intellectual and spiritual resources to the community at large in order to further JTS’s mission of strengthening Jewish tradition, Jewish lives, and Jewish communities.

The ideal candidate works independently, managing several long-term projects and performing a wide range of administrative and clerical duties to support the unit. He/she communicates with, and provides services to, a wide range of internal and external contacts. Anticipates and resolves problems; updates supervisor on status of projects.


  • Coordinate multiple projects - including events, ongoing programs and online content - as well as assist with specific tasks related to projects managed by others.
  • Organize and implement administrative systems and procedures to perform administrative support duties. 
  •  Work with staff, faculty and outside partners to ensure excellent program quality and communications.
  • Draft, edit, and prepare correspondence, reports, and other materials.
  • Manage social media campaigns, content, updates and social listening
  • Assist in focus group recruitment and hosting
  • May arrange for use of facilities for conferences and seminars.
  • May act as liaison to related programs or projects.  

Minimum Requirements

  • Excellent organizational skills, detail oriented, ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Highly motivated work ethic, with the ability to create appropriate project timelines and the capacity to work within those timelines to finish the job completely
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous experience developing and managing social media platforms
  • Complete facility with the Microsoft Office suite and ability to easily learn new software
  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 1-2 years work experience as an administrative assistant or program coordinator, including project management and programming experience
  • Familiarity with both the NY and the national Jewish community landscape; experience as a volunteer or professional in a Jewish organization is a plus. 
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of confidentiality and discretion
