With a generous gift to The Jewish Theological Seminary, Diane and Howard Wohl of Mill Neck, New York, have funded the creation and support of the Diane and Howard Wohl Office of Alumni Affairs at JTS.
Diane and Howard Wohl’s passion for educating the next generation of Jewish leaders is evident in their long-standing involvement in and support of the Conservative Movement and JTS, where Mrs. Wohl is a member of the JTS Long Island/Queens Cabinet as well as the Albert A. List College of Jewish Studies Advisory Board.
"We decided to establish the Diane and Howard Wohl Alumni Office because of our strong belief in Conservative Judaism and to ensure that JTS alumni from all five schools have the opportunity to connect, regardless of where they are in the world today. We feel that JTS is the center of Jewish learning and living that enables Conservative Jews to live an enriched Jewish life," stated the Wohls.
Active members of Temple Beth Torah in Westbury, where Mrs. Wohl is a past president and Mr. Wohl has held executive board positions, together they support seniors at the Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and, through their commitment to the Barry and Florence Friedberg JCC’s Sunrise Day Camp, children with cancer. They are also strong supporters of UJA-Federation and its beneficiary agencies. Internationally, the Wohls are associated with Fuchsberg Jerusalem Center and are committed to strengthening the Jewish community in the former Soviet Union through Mrs. Wohl’s participation in Project Kesher, Limmud, JCC International, and the Schechter Institute.
Active in Women’s League for Conservative Judaism for many years, Mrs. Wohl sits on the Torah Fund Cabinet and the Board of Directors of Women’s League. A past chair of the Long Island Women's Campaign of the UJA, she is an endowed Lion of Judah, a member of the Giving Circle of the Jewish Women's Federation, and on the Advisory Committee of the Caring Commission. A board member of Hillel at Hofstra University, she also sits on both the International Board of Governors and National Board of Directors of Hillel.
Mr. Wohl serves as chair of the International Board of Directors of BBYO, Inc., and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Jewish Education of Greater New York, where he chairs its Nassau/Queens Advisory Committee and is a vice president of SAJES, a Jewish education agency. He also heads Hillel’s Investment Committee and is a board member of Brooklyn College Hillel.
The Wohls have three children and four grandchildren, and take great pride in their children’s involvement in the Jewish community.
