Deborah Zuker is currently a second-year student in The Rabbinical School.
Originally from Ottawa, she attended college at Queens University in Canada. Her interest in the rabbinate blossomed during a stay in Jerusalem while at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies. In Israel she became deeply interested in Conservative Judaism.
This summer she will be a rosh edah (head counselor) at Camp Ramah in the Berkshires. Although there are few women rabbis heading synagogues in Canada to date, Deborah is looking forward to heading a congregation of her own when she graduates. “As an intern, I’ve gotten to shadow a lot of rabbis as they work, and I really like what I see. When a rabbi and the congregation really fit, it is a beautiful thing!” She can’t wait to be part of the equation.
