Shira Kohn is adjunct instructor in Jewish History at The Jewish Theological Seminary, where she teaches Gender and Modern Jewish History. She is also assistant dean of The Graduate School of JTS, and serves as advisor to the Modern Jewish Studies and Jewish Studies MA programs. Her research focuses on American Jewish history and women's history; she is currently completing her doctoral dissertation on Jewish sororities in the postwar United States, particularly the ways in which they responded to social and political movements such as Cold War anticommunism and civil rights. She coedited A Jewish Feminine Mystique? Jewish Women in Postwar America (Rutgers University Press, 2010) with Hasia Diner and Rachel Kranson, and was recently invited to join the board of the Association for Jewish Studies (AJS) Women's Caucus.
