Join us in the Beit Midrash for a journey through time and texts. We'll learn about the intersection of historical figures with Jewish figures. Some of the topics we will cover include Alexander the Great and Shimon HaTzaddik, R. Yochanan Ben Zakai and the Roman emperor Vespasian—even Avraham and Sargon (though you might know him better as Nimrod). We will study b'chavruta, reading source texts from the Tanakh, Mishna, and Talmud, as we explore these fascinating and dramatic moments and seek to understand the lessons they can teach us about the relationships between governments and subjects, Jews and Gentiles, and religion and politics.
