Seventh/Eighth Grade: Biblical Civilization

What did it mean to be a Jew who lived in the Biblical Era? How did the Biblical writers understand the Israelite community internally and externally? What can we learn from our ancestors about how we can live today? This course will look at all of these questions as we examine the Tanakh (Bible) and its foundations for our current understanding of the Jewish religion. In accomplishing this goal, we will explore five specific themes throughout the Bible: God and prayer, Jewish peoplehood, Jews and the land of Israel, Jerusalem and the Temple, and the relationship between Jews and non-Jews.
