  • Columbia Gym (Dodge Fitness Center), (212) 854-2548
    Columbia/JTS students may use the gym and attend all Columbia sporting events with their Columbia IDs. JTS-only students must pay a fee per semester plus a one-time fee for a gym ID. Most athletic activities and classes take place at Dodge, located at the north end of campus. Hours and fees vary.

    The fee is minimal to use the small gym with track and pool, and to take dance classes. You can also reserve courts for tennis and racquetball. Hours and fees vary.
  • Central and Riverside Parks, Central Park Visitors' Center, (212) 794-6564
    During the day these parks are places to relax, walk, or run, especially on the weekend. Central Park's Sheep Meadow (West 70th Street) is a must for a beautiful view! Riverside Park has beautiful views of the Hudson River. Check out the trails for jogging, walking, biking, and skating.

Over many years, several children of JTS students, faculty, and staff have attended the Children's Learning Center, which is located in Morningside Heights (Morningside Gardens housing complex). Founded in 1976, Children's Learning Center provides a relaxed, friendly, and nurturing environment that promotes children's growth in all developmental spheres.

LGBT Student Resources

  • Gayava is the Jewish lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender group at Columbia/Barnard Hillel. A safe environment for undergraduate and graduate students to socialize as members of both the Jewish and LGBT communities, Gayava also works to foster awareness of LGBT issues in the greater Jewish community.
  • NUJLS is the National Union of Jewish Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, and Intersex Students. This group is for Jewish students and young adults of diverse sexual and gender identities who empower our communities and ourselves through education, support, and outreach.
  • Congregation Beth Simchat Torah (CBST) is New York City’s synagogue for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Jews, our families, and our friends.
