Reflections on the Shofar, the Avodah, and Kol Nidrei"
Rabbi Eliezer Diamond
Wednesday, August 27, 2014
2:00–3:00 p.m. (EDT)
Join JTS for this free webinar for rabbis that is designed to inspire you in your preparation of High Holiday derashot this year. Rabbi Diamond will explore three key sections of the High Holiday liturgy, reflecting on their thematic and spiritual relevance to our lives as contemporary Jews.
Rabbi Eliezer Diamond, the Rabbi Judah Nadich Associate Professor of Talmud and Rabbinics at JTS, is the author of many popular and scholarly publications. He is currently writing a volume on prayer that will address the problem of cognitive dissonance for the contemporary worshipper and offer readings of traditional liturgy that use midrashic methodology to find meaning for the modern Jew. He is also editing a commentary on Yerushalmi Pesahim, written by JTS faculty member Dr. Louis Ginzberg (z"l). Rabbi Diamond has taught in a variety of settings in addition to JTS, including Stern College, the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, the 92nd Street Y, and several Ramah camps. He was ordained at the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary of Yeshiva University and received his doctorate in Talmud from JTS.
