The Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) will honor Senator Carl Levin and Representative Sander Levin at a high tea reception on Sunday, April 18, at Congregation Shaarey Zedek, Southfield.
Senator Levin and Representative Levin will be presented with the Eternal Light Award, JTS’s highest honor, given for service to God and humanity. For almost sixty years, Carl Levin and Sander Levin have dedicated their careers to serving the citizens of Michigan and the United States. Carl and Sander are currently the only brothers serving in Congress.
Senator Levin was elected in 1978 and currently chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee and serves on the Senate committees for Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, Intelligence, and Small Business and Entrepreneurship. Senator Levin and his wife, Barbara, have three daughters and five grandchildren.
Representative Levin was first elected to Congress in 1982. He was recently appointed chair of the Committee on Ways and Means, which has jurisdiction over all tax, trade, and economic growth policies. He is chairman of the Trade Subcommittee and also serves on the Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support. Representative Levin and his wife, Vicki (z”l), have four children and nine grandchildren.
