JTS to Honor Distinguished Litigator Daniel J. Beller

Daniel J. Beller, a senior partner at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, will be honored at The Jewish Theological Seminary’s 16th annual Judge Simon H. Rifkind Award Luncheon on Tuesday, March 1, 2011. The event will take place at noon at the Pierre, Fifth Avenue and 61st Street, in New York City.
Mr. Beller oversees a wide variety of complex civil and criminal cases, including antitrust, securities, government enforcement, white-collar criminal defense, real estate and general commercial litigation, and internal corporate investigations. In
1998, he was elected a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and he has been consistently recognized as one of the nation’s outstanding lawyers by Chambers Global

Mr. Beller is a graduate of Ramaz, Harvard College, and Yale Law School. Prior to entering private practice, he served as law clerk to the Honorable Irving R. Kaufman, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and then as assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York, where he was chief of the Major Crimes Unit.
Mr. Beller has a long and deep commitment to public service and to the Jewish community. He is a trustee of the Federal Bar Council and JTS, and national commissioner of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and member of its New York Regional Board; he is also a former co-chair of the ADL’s Lawyers Division. From 2002 to 2005, Mr. Beller was president of Congregation Or Zarua on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and now serves on the executive committee of the synagogue’s board of directors. He has been honored with the Torch of Learning Award by the American Friends of the Hebrew University and the Humanitarian Award by the ADL.
The Judge Simon H. Rifkind Award was established at JTS in 1996 in recognition of Judge Rifkind’s exemplary life, which was marked by professional preeminence, distinguished public service, and unstinting devotion to the Jewish community. A graduate of JTS’s Teachers Institute (now List College), Judge Rifkind served as chairman of the JTS Board from 1963 until 1972.
