About The Library

Message from Librarian David Kraemer

Welcome to The Library of The Jewish Theological Seminary, which serves JTS students as well as scholars and researchers around the world. Home to more than 425,000 volumes, The Library has the largest and most extensive collection of Hebraic and Judaic material in the Western Hemisphere.

We at The Library want to make sure that your experience with our resources is as simple and seamless as possible. In addition to our many on-site materials—including hundreds of thousands of books, manuscripts, archival documents, recordings, and pieces of Jewish art—you will find an ever-greater quantity of digital materials. From links to other sites (our presence online often takes advantage of partnerships) to documents and images in our own digital library, you will find that you will often be able to do your research without actually visiting us. But visit us just the same.

There is nothing like standing in the midst of the vast evidence of Jewish historical genius to inspire one to express her or his own genius.

Sincerely,
Dr. David Kraemer
