In the mezzotint, a rich Jew, like the biblical Solomon, is seen in his drawing room admiring an opulently bedecked courtesan that his procuress has just presented to him. On the walls behind where he sits hang pictures of biblical (or possibly classical) scenes, showing the ravishment of young women. The lavishness of the decor belies the sordid nature of the liaison.
