The Beautiful Possible: A Novel
A lively discussion with Amy Gottlieb on her epic debut novel The Beautiful Possible, in the vein of Nicole Krauss’s The History of Love. Gottlieb’s story follows a postwar love triangle between an American rabbi, his wife, and a German-Jewish refugee.
Gottlieb was in conversation with Dr. Shuly Rubin Schwartz, Irving Lehman Research Associate Professor of American Jewish History and Walter and Sarah Schlesinger Dean of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies, author of The Rabbi’s Wife: The Rebbetzin in American Jewish Life. Dr. Schwartz is the daughter, wife, and mother of rabbis.

Amy Gottlieb’s fiction and poetry have been published in many literary journals and anthologies, and she has received fellowships from the Drisha Institute for Jewish Education and the Bronx Council on the Arts. Formerly the director of publications for the Rabbinical Assembly, she currently leads writing workshops at Drisha and Beyond Walls: Spiritual Writing at Kenyon.
