This fall, enjoy special access to rare materials from The JTS Library’s extraordinary collection in our brand-new space. This course will explore the intimate lives of ordinary Jews and their everyday experiences of prayer, ritual, and life-cycle events through a consideration of their objects: siddurim from Germany, marriage contracts from Egypt, and illuminated Haggadot from Italy.

What stories do these objects tell? What insights do they offer on medieval and early modern Diaspora Jewish communities and the complex processes of imitation of and adaptation to surrounding cultures?

Enrollment is limited to 15 people to ensure a hands-on encounter with the unique books and artifacts in The Library’s collection.

Cost: $295 for six sessions.
