1964 Rabbinical School Reunion

We were delighted to organize a virtual reunion for the 1964 graduates of our Rabbinical School. On the 60th anniversary of their ordination, rabbis from Hawaii to Brazil to Israel joined us to discuss their personal and professional accomplishments since their JTS days. This group of dedicated spiritual leaders has worked in a variety of settings, ranging from pulpits and hospitals to serving Jewish communities abroad in countries like Switzerland and Germany.

Together, they reminisced about their professors, the books they’ve read (and written!), and their Commencement, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. received an Honorary Degree. Another highlight of the gathering was sharing thoughts on the state of Judaism today and their hopes for the future. Their optimism was further inspired when Vice Chancellor Rabbi Joel Seltzer joined the conversation, providing current updates on JTS and the Rabbinical School. The alumni also took time to honor their classmates who have passed away.

It was a joyous afternoon catching up with this group. JTS was thrilled to host this virtual reunion and looks forward to future events like this. This group will also participate in a special virtual tour of the Rare Book Room in a few months. We can’t wait to get together again!

If you are interested in a reunion for you and your classmates from any JTS school, please reach out to JTS’s Director of Alumni Affairs, Melissa Friedman.
