Criminalizing Books and the Concern for Our Future

“As provost of The Jewish Theological Seminary and interim dean of its William Davidson Graduate School of Jewish Education, I was appalled to read about an attack on a bookshop. For a people whose books have been censored and burned over the centuries, this form of violence is utterly horrifying,” writes Dr. Jeffrey Kress, Provost of JTS and the Dr. Bernard Heller Professor of Jewish Education, in Times of Israel.

Dr. Jeffrey Kress shared his thoughts about the recent raid on the Educational Bookshop in Jerusalem; the essential role bookstore has played in The William Davidson School’s Israel-based programs, Visions and Voices and Kesher Hadash; and the connections JTS students and faculty have shared with bookstore owner Mahmoud Muna.
