Israeli Jurists and Lawyers Visit JTS
JTS was pleased to welcome a delegation of Israeli jurists and lawyers to campus earlier this month. Members of the delegation included Yoram Danziger, former judge of the Israel Supreme Court; Avichai Mandelblit, immediate past attorney general of the State of Israel; and Amit Becher, president of the Israel Bar Association.
The delegation visited New York on a solidarity mission, building relationships with fellow legal professionals. While on campus, the group enjoyed breakfast, a tour of The JTS Library, a visit to the Rare Book Room, and a guided discussion about the ongoing war in Gaza, as well as the strength of Israel’s democracy. In addition, members of the delegation provided an explanation of the ongoing judicial reform debate occurring in Israel.
Board Chair Alan Levine hosted the group and was joined by additional board members and members of the JTS administration including Chancellor Schwartz, Rabbi Gordon Tucker, Provost Jeff Kress, and Rabbi Joel Seltzer.
It was an honor for JTS to be a part of the group’s special trip and to be in conversation with this group representing Israel’s rule of law.
