A dear man whom I first met at Camp Ramah over 50 years ago, Rabbi Harlow (z”l) was a gifted translator of both liturgical and modern Hebrew, and a talented jazz musician. Editor of Conservative Judaism’s prayerbooks for decades, he unlocked meaningful prayer paths for generations of Jews. I associate him most strongly with the one-letter addition to the second Hanukkah candle blessing that he included in the Sim Shalom prayerbook. It reminds us of the miracles that are all around us, a lesson that helps me appreciate beauty, creativity and kindness every day. Learn more on this here.
Yehi zikhro barukh. May his memory be a blessing to all those whose lives he has touched.
