Remembering Professor Yehuda Bauer (z”l)

It is with great sadness that JTS mourns the loss of Professor Yehuda Bauer, a prominent Holocaust historian.

Professor Bauer was an international scholar of Holocaust studies and antisemitism, having published numerous books on the topic. Through his prolific writing and teaching, he profoundly influenced how generations of people approached the study and understanding of the Holocaust.

It was a privilege for JTS to bestow an honorary doctorate degree upon him in 2004.

When Chancellor Schorsch conferred the degree, he said, “Over your long and illustrious career, you have made extraordinary contributions to the world’s understanding of the most terrible catastrophe to befall our people.” Read the full citation from the 2004 Commencement program.
