Dr. Phil Keisman

Director of Teen Education

Dr. Phil Keisman is the director of Teen Education at JTS. He earned his PhD in European History from the City University of New York Graduate Center. His dissertation, “Publishing the Pan-Jewish: The First Hebrew Newspaper and Its Modernities,” explores the origins of the Hebrew press in the 1850s, focusing on the intersection of religion and emerging media. He is a veteran educator and teacher of Jewish history and text and has taught at The Abraham Joshua Heschel School, Beit Rabban Day School, The New School, Lehman College, and Queens College. Dr. Keisman is eager to introduce new learning models to Jewish teens while incorporating cutting-edge scholarship.
